Hoxnian interglacial c.424k-374k BC (MIS 11) A good Lower Paleolithic "Clactonian" Bifacially worked Flint chopper found many years back at Jaywick, Essex and from an old Norfolk collection. A chunky flint chopper fabricated from a large wedge shaped flake of beige / grey flint. Bifacially worked, and retouched to form a slightly curved chopping blade edge. Pebble cortex remains on butt end to aide grip in the hand during use. Intact and in very good condition with good surface ageing and a pleasant patination, a decent example of an early stone age chopper from a notable prehistoric site, 90mm long x 85mm wide x 43mm at thickest
