Hoxnian interglacial c.424k-374k BC (MIS 11) A huge, heavy & excellent Lower Paleolithic "Trihedral" Chopper found many years back at Wheelers Lane gravel pit, Canford, Dorset and from a Hampshire Geologists collection. Fabricated from a huge cobble of black, grey and blue coloured flint with two large flake removals plus flat back of the cobble effectively forming the large Trihedral point and chopping blades. Clear evidence of percussive / chopping use from the myriad of small percussion scars on the tip and blade edges. Pebble cortex on one end of chopper forming a good gripping surface. A large, heavy and tactile piece which fits in the hand nicely affording a good grip of the tool.Totally intact and in very nice condition with good surface ageing and attractive patina and colouration, an excellent example of a large early stone age hand chopper from a notable prehistoric site, 148mm long x 83mm wide x 70mm deep
