Hoxnian interglacial c.424k-374k BC (MIS 11) A large (0.5kg) Lower Paleolithic Cobble Hand Pick found many years back at Wheelers Lane gravel pit, Canford, Dorset and from a Hampshire Geologists collection. Fabricated from a huge elongate cobble of grey and blue coloured flint with three large flake removals to define the functional digging point. The rest of the toll still has the original cortex remainng to aide grip in use. A large, heavy and tactile piece which fits in the hand nicely affording a good grip of the tool.Totally intact and in very nice condition with good surface ageing and attractive patina and colouration, an excellent example of a large early stone age hand pick from a notable prehistoric site, 135mm long x 70mm wide x 65mm deep
