Kimmeridgian Clay layers - Jurassic Period c.152-157 million years old. A scarce Pliosaur (Stretosaurus Macromeris Sp.) vertebrae dredged up many years back near Portland Bill, Weymouth, Dorset and from a Hampshire Geologists collection. This impressive dinosaur bone hails from a Pliosaur, a huge marine carnivorous reptile that could grow to in excess of 10 metres in length, with a large elongated head containing many sharp conical teeth, a short stubby neck and large bulbous body, stubby pointed tail and four large paddle like limbs for propelling itself at speed through the water to catch its prey. This bone is smaller in diameter than some, so most likely a from the upper neck area of a juvenile Pliosaur. In very good overall condition with sound surfaces and an excellent example of its type, 80mm high x 87mm wide x 42mm thick
