c.2500-2000 B.C. A colossal and very heavy (c.2kg) Late Neolithic bored stone axe hammer found many years ago in Moen, Belgium and from an old established Canadian private collection. Expertly fashioned from a hard coarse stone with a flattened butt to act as a hammer impact face and a distinct and well formed tapered blade end at the opposing end. A 40+mm diameter hole has been painstakingly hand drilled though the centre of the axe hammer using a bow drill, sand and water to allow the axe to be fitted to a large robust wooden handle for use. Some minor chipping to very edge of blade from its use otherwise the axe hammer is totally intact and in very good overall condition, a truly massive and imposing example of the type, 168mm long x 113mm wide x 85mm deep, shaft hole 40mm.
