c.1st/2nd Century A.D. A decent and affordable group of 5 x assorted Roman "Samian ware" decorative pottery shards found in Essex and featuring ornate decorative border decorations as well as remnants of birds, leaves and figures. Samian Ware was manufactured in Gaul (France) and this high class pottery was then imported throughout the Roman Empire in the 1st and 2nd Centuries A.D. The shards would have once formed parts of very large ornate bowls, platters or drinking vessels. Some surface wear in parts from their time buried in the Earth but otherwise a decent and affordable study or retail group of Roman Samian Ware, smallest shard c.38mm long, the largest 87mm.
