A genuine piece of Oak recovered from H.M.S. Victory during renovation work. A fragment of timber (Oak) officially salvaged from Nelson's flagship HMS Victory, the oldest commissioned warship in the World. Work on HMS Victory began in 1759 and was completed in 1765 but Victory wasn't fully commissioned and put to sea until 1778. Pieces of Oak are recovered periodically during repairs and restoration. They are then sold in small pieces to raise funds towards her ongoing preservation in Portsmouth. Here we have a relatively large fragment of Oak in a small perspex display box likely dating to the 1970's/1980's.
