c.4000-3000 B.C. A good and scarce Neolithic "Rubber Stone" found many years ago at Hellesdon, Norfolk and from an old Norfolk collection. Formed from a precisely split hard stone pebble with a smooth upper side which fits the palm of the hand comfortable, the split face is completely flat but with a rough texture to the touch. A "rubber stone" would have been used in conjunction with a larger slab-like or slightly dished hard-stone "saddle quern" to hand grind grain into flour for making bread. Totally intact and in very good condition, a scarce and unusual Neolithic domestic item, 108mm long x 60mm wide x 30mm thick
