Late Bronze age c.800-600 B.C. A good, largely complete Late Bronze age, bronze socketed axe head , found in Nottinghamshire and from an old Canadian private collection. A decent sized bronze socketed axe head with well defined, slightly flared blade, plain body with three lightly embossed ridges from socket to blade on either side. Ribbed collar around edge of socket, fastening loop on top edge for securing the axe head to a shaped wooden shaft for use. Part of socket broken in antiquity and probably during heavy use, some wear to surfaces from time buried in the ground otherwise still a largely complete, reasonable and affordable example of the type. Good sound surfaces with a patchy dark green patination,, 88mm long x 48mm across blade, socket approx 30mm diameter.
