c.10,000-8,000 B.C. A good Mesolithic "Flint Core" hand axe dredged up many years back from the River Solent near Lymington, Hampshire and from a Hampshire Geologists collection. Fashioned from a large outer flint flake from a nodule of whitish grey flint, Bifacially worked on one edge to form the functional cutting / chopping blade. Cortex remaining on one side which no doubt assisted the grip of the axe in use. In very good condition good surface ageing and patination, an interesting Mesolithic flint hand tool, 108mm long x 86mm wide x 27mm thick
