c.60,000-40,000 B.C. A good Paleolithic Mousterian (Neanderthal) flint hand axe found in the early part of the 20th Century in the Dordogne, France and from an old French lithic collection. Fashioned from a large thick flake of honey coloured flint which has then been worked to form a pronounced functional tip. An old ink inscription on one side citing "LES FERELIES PAZAC" on the main worked face. Totally intact and in nice condition with an attractive old collection patina to worked surfaces, a pleasant example of its type, 113mm long x 54mm wide x 37mm thick
