Upper Paleolithic c.50,000 - 10,000 B.C. A good sized, attractive and well worked Upper Paleolithic flint "Piriform" (Teardrop) shaped hand axe found in Ashmore, Dorset and from a West Country collection. Flat underside but well worked over the upper surface to form a nice symmetrical tear drop shape with a good functional point and a medial ridge sloping away to the edges. Good sharp blade edges with some secondary working to further enhance them. A good sized axe which fits nicely in the hand, intact and in very nice condition with a good surface ageing and patination further enhanced by some additional iron oxide highlights. 124mm long x 92mm wide x 22mm thick.
