SOLD

c.8th/9th Century A.D. A good sized and pleasant Anglo Saxon bronze Zoomorphic hook end clothing fastener found in Cambridgeshire. This unusual strap end is fashioned to resemble a snakes body with ribbed decoration along the body with two indented eyes, the head then curls under itself forming a hook. The end of the fastener widens to a plain triangulated plate with two small holes at the end with which it would have stitched to the flap side of a garment and the hook end would have hooked into a small bronze eye on another part of the garment to secure it. Totally intact and in very good condition with a pleasant shiny green surface patination, a good and appealing example of the type, 48mm long x 10mm wide x 8mm deep.
