c.4000-3000 B.C. A good sized and superb Neolithic polished stone axe head unearthed in the early 20th Century in the Dordogne region of France and from an old French Lithic collection. A super example, beautifully worked from a mottled pale olive green fine grained hard stone, very symmetrical throughout and beautifully worked, smoothed and polished over its entirety with a near perfect blade edge with no signs of any heavy impact use suggesting that this axe head was never intended for use and was instead a status or depositional piece. A very fine and tactile example of its type from an old collection, 138mm long x 60mm across blade x 24mm thick
