c.1st Century A.D. A good sized Roman"Kraftig Profilierte" bronze fibula / brooch (sim.Hattatt 333); a European form but found many years back in North Yorkshire so most likely brought to the U.K. by Roman soldiers or settlers from Europe. A unique form of brooch and effectively a fusion of knee, trumpet and "T" brooches. Iron spring and pin missing as is usual for these brooches and a couple of minor knocks otherwise intact and in good overall condition with a pleasant green patination, 55mm long x 18mm at widest, 25mm deep
