c.2200-1800 B.C. A heavy and superb quality Late Neolithic - Early Bronze age polished and perforated stone Axe Hammer, believed to be of European origin, found in the mid 20th Century and from an extensive Canadian lithic collection amassed in the 1960's/70's. Beautifully fashioned from a most attractive deep black stone, very symmetrical with a very well defined blade edge, smoothly polished over its entire surface and featuring a large central hole (painstakingly hand bored using bow drills, coarse sand and water) for fixing the Axe hammer to a wooden shaft. A small, barely noticeable old knock to one side edge of blade otherwise totally intact, in superb overall condition with excellent smooth surfaces and a most appealing shiny overall patination, a lovely and extremely tactile example, 100mm long x 56mm wide x 53mm thick.
