Late Neolithic c.2500-2000 B.C. A heavy, well defined and rare, semi-polished "Cornish Green Stone" Axe found on the The Lizard, Cornwall and from a Cornish collection. Expertly and painstakingly worked and pecked from this a hard dark grey coarse stone (Epidiorite), nicely symmetrical throughout and with an excellent blade edge which has been smoothly polished on either side to both strengthen and enhance the axe and its blade edge. Intact and in lovely condition, an excellent and tactile example of this rare type of Neolithic axe from a very noteable location, 127mm long x 58mm across blade x 40mm thick.
