SOLD

c.16th / 17th Century A.D. A huge hand forged iron "Rosehead" ships nail excavated many years ago from the banks of the River Thames, London and from an old Northern Irish collection. This impressive iron nail is of the type used to construct huge wooden Galleons and measures 235mm long with a chisel edged tip and the characteristic solid bulbous "Rosehead" top. Seemingly an unused example of the type and probably dropped into the River Thames during a ships construction, so totally intact and in very good overall condition for ancient iron. Comes with a custom made and engraved descriptive plaque, a particularly large and impressive Ancient Maritime item, 235mm long x shank 12mm x 12mm, Rosehead 23mm x 23mm
