Carboniferous period: 358 to 298 Million years old. A huge and exceptional (245g) "Spirifer Striatus" fossil brachipod, found in the early 20th Century in Derbyshire and from an old collection. A much larger than usual example, completely matrix free, intact and in excellent overall condition. Highly-typical Bi-convex specimen with both valves and clearly shows the long hinge line, interarea, delthyrium, numerous lateral plications, a strong dorsal fold and a prominent ventral sulcus, a imposing and choice example of the type, 88mm wide x 60mm deep x 46mm thick
