A huge, heavy and excellent Mid-Paleolithic flint Proto-hand axe found in the 1960's in South Central France and from an old French collection amassed in the 1950's/60's. A very substantial example in an attractive lovely honey / toffee coloured flint; An early axe manufactured by Homo Heiedlbergensis the ancestor of the Neantherthals; typically crude used more for crushing than cutting.
