c.3000-2500 B.C. A huge and stunning Late Neolithic flake flint axe and a perfect example of its type and clearly a status or deposition piece as no indication of use or damage. The axe hails from an old West Midlands collection and came from the collection and estate of the original collector and was sold by his Widow. The axe was discovered in the Mid-20th Century near Bromsgrove, Worcs. and in an area of soft sandy loam soil and thus has been perfectly preserved, no visible damage or signs of use and looking almost as fresh as the day it was manufactured with still sharp edges. Very symmetrical and beautifully worked over its entirety with a lovely gentle patina to all worked areas and just some subtle ageing and smoothing to surfaces and ridges of percussion from its time buried in the soil. Weighing in at almost 0.7kg and measuring 180mm long x 100mm wide and 28mm thick this axe is undoubtedly a choice example of the type.
