c.6th Century A.D. A huge, rare and superb Early Anglo Saxon square headed "Zoomorphic" plate brooch from Yorkshire featuring a large ornate rectangular head plate, sytlised Raven's head adornments on either side mid-way down bow and a stylised Dragonesque terminal with bulbous eyes and very large flared nostrils. Originally gilded or silvered but now merely patinated bronze. A barely discernible and professionally administered metallurgical repair to lower part of bow which has been re-patinated and blended with original patina, otherwise totally intact and in very nice overall condition with good surfaces and an attractive shiny black, A rarely offered and very large and impressive example of the type, 150mm long x 54mm wide x 25mm deep
