c.4th Century B.C. A large and very affordable Ancient Greek platter dish with an impressed sunburst design originally unearthed broken in the mid 20th Century and now repaired to whole. Originally black glazed terracotta with a major area of the original black glaze remaining on the underside. The platter has a small ring pedestal base and a gently cupped main platter body. The top surface of the platter features an impressed radial sunburst design. Rubbing to glaze and apart from the aforementioned repair there are also a few chips to the perimeter and also to the pedestal base, as excavated, otherwise complete and in reasonable condition for its great age. A good sized and still collectable Ancient Greek pottery vessel at a very affordable price, 210mm diameter x 38mm deep.
