c.60,000-40,000 B.C. A large & excellent Paleolithic (Neanderthal) "Levallois" Nosed scraper tool found in the early part of the 20th Century at the famous Neanderthal site of Peyzac Le Moustier, in the Dordogne, France and from an old French lithic collection. A tactile tool with a largely flat underside, well worked in a typical "Levallois" tradition on a wide thick flake of honey & grey flint, struck from the top of a prepared flint core, wide central "Levallois" plateau on upper surface with further definition added to form scraper nose with and cutting / scraping blades edges either side of nose. Totally intact and in lovely condition with an attractive old collection patina, a nice example of its type, 51mm long x 73mm wide x 18mm thick
