c.2500-1800 B.C. A large and extremely rare Late Neolithic-Early Bronze Age, carved and shaped Bone Fishing Net needle found in the early 20th Century in the Ancient Swiss Lake Village settlements of Lake Neuchatel in Switzerland (now a UNESCO World heritage site) and more recently Ex. The Simon Camm Collection, Cornwall [Simon, a retired Geologist and Author amassed the most fantastic collection of only the finest quality and rarest examples of Stone Age and Bronze Age artefact's, a collection to rival many Museums in fact]. This large and impressive needle has been expertly carved from an animal limb bone with a finely honed and smoothed point and a hole drilled in the end to attached sinew or cordage of some kind and most likely used for the manufacture of fishing nets. The large bone needle has a slight but stable, old drying / shrinkage crack down one side (not detracting) otherwise it is totally intact and in excellent condition for its great age with good sound surfaces and a most pleasant Ancient shiny patina and colouration. An old feint ink inscription down one side followed by what appears to a year 1893(?). Large Neolithic carved bone tools rarely ever appear for sale and rarer still hailing from the Swiss Lake Villages; this is an excellent example of its type and a once in a lifetime chance to add one to you own Lithic collection, approx. 156mm long x 19mm wide x 18mm deep at widest end
