Hoxnian Interglacial period (MIS 11-10) c.424,000 to 374,000 years old. A large & heavy Lower Paleolithic flint hand axe / chopper found many years back at the famous Prehistoric site of Hoxne, Suffolk (a site that gave the name to the Hoxnian Interglacial period) and from an old Norfolk collection. Expertly fashioned from a large, thick flake of black / grey flint, well worked on three sides with further working and retouching on one side forming the main functional chopping / cutting blade. Intact and in very good condition for its great age with a good old collection patina, an excellent example of its type and from a very notable prehistoric site. 103mm long x 73mm wide x 26mm thick
