c.60,000-40,000 B.C. A large & pleasant Paleolithic (Neanderthal) Dual-Notched scraper tool found in the early part of the 20th Century at the famous Neanderthal site of Peyzac Le Moustier, in the Dordogne, France and from an old French lithic collection. A chunky and tactile tool with a largely flat underside, and upper clearly worked with a medial ridge, main blade edge then re-worked to form two distinct concave notches which would have been used to strip bark, shoots and twigs from a tree for making wood thrusting spears. Old ink inscription cites "La Ferelie Pazac". Totally intact and in very good condition with an old collection patina, a nice example this unusual flint tool from a notable Neanderthal site, 80mm long x 60mm wide x 23mm thick
