c.60,000-40,000 B.C. A large & pleasant Paleolithic (Neanderthal) Notched scraper tool found in the early part of the 20th Century at the famous Neanderthal site of Peyzac Le Moustier, in the Dordogne, France and from an old French lithic collection. A chunky and tactile tool with a largely flat underside, and upper clearly worked with a medial ridge, main blade edge then re-worked to form a large concave notch which would have been used to strip bark, shoots and twigs from a tree for making wood thrusting spears. Totally intact and in lovely condition with an attractive old collection patina, a nice example of its type, 85mm long x 70mm wide x 25mm thick
