Product Description
Anglian to Hoxnian strata c.524,000 to 424,000 BC (MIS13-11). A large and attractive Lower Paleolithic Unifacial Ovate Hand Axe from a famous Lower Prehistoric site at Whitlingham just outside Norwich, Norfolk. From an old Norfolk collection. Skillfully fashioned from a large ovate flint flake, main face of Hand Axe still with original pebble cortex intact and then nicely worked around its upper edge with five major flake removals forming a distinct, functional and almost denticulated main cutting / chopping blade. A further nice addition is a small Fossil shell imprint to left side of axe. Totally intact with a most appealing attractive old Paleolithic colouration and an attractive shiny surface patination to worked faces, a very tactile and appealing example of a large early Paleolithic Hand Axe from a notable site, 98mm long x 94mm wide x 30mm thick
