c. A.D. 1400, A large and attractive Medieval glazed pottery Spindle Whorl found in the River Thames, London. It is of a flattened Doughnut shape with central hole for the wooden spindle and 5 incuse lateral decorative grooves around its perimeter. Made from a heavy and dense dark clay, with an overall deep ochre glaze. Spindle Whorls were circular weights attached to the base of a wooden spindle; raw wool is attached to the top of the spindel and the whole thing is then spun to form yarn for the knitting of clothes. Intact and in very nice condition with good glazing and surfaces, 30mm diameter x 20mm deep
