c.2500-2000 B.C. A large and excellent Late Neolithic flint Discoidal knife with pressure flaked blade edge found some years back in North Yorkshire. Nicely fashioned from an attractive light grey mottled flint and formed from a large circular flake taken from the top of a large flint cobble with the original outer cortex remaining on much of the upper surface and forming the grip for the knife. The knife is almost entirely circular with a large sharp slicing blade on one side formed from one skilfully administered large deep percussion strike to the flake, on the opposite side of the knife a smaller area of cortex has been worked and the expertly pressure flaked along its length to form an excellent sawing and slicing blade edge. The discoidal knife is totally intact and in excellent condition with undamaged and still sharp blades edges. A very nice example of its type, 70mm x 63mm x 9mm thick.
