c.2nd Century A.D. A large and impressive terracotta strap handle from a huge Roman Amphora found a major Roman Villa site in Suffolk in the early 20th Century and from an old Essex collection. This large and impressive example most likely hails from one of the huge amphora's that were originally used to both transport and contain the fermented fish sauce that the Romans were so fond of, once empty the amphora's would then have been smashed and pieces buried in rubbish pits. Of thick robust form the handle also sports distinct ribbing along its length and is in very good sound condition, 134mm high x 74mm wide x 70mm deep, strap handle 44mm wide.
