SOLD
c.4th-3rd Century B.C. A large and pleasant Ancient Greek redware terracotta Salt Bowl (Salter). From the Greek colonies in Campania, Southern Italy. An attractive shallow salt bowl standing on a small pedestal ring base, which would have been a common site on Ancient Greek dining tables as salt was a vital and highly prized commodity. Some rubbing to glaze plus a tiny chip to pedestal base from its time buried in the earth (neither detracting from the vessel) otherwise totally intact and in very good condition, a pleasant example of the type, Ex Suffolk collection, 117mm diameter, 28mm high.
