c.2200-1800 B.C. A large and rare Late Neolithic / Early Bronze Age decorated pottery spindle whorl found in Germany many years ago and from an old London collection. Central hole for insertion of wooden shaft to the end of which natural wool fibres would have been attached and the whole assemble then spun to make woollen yarn whih in turn would be used to weave cloth for making basic garments. Hand decorated over its entire surface with many radial lines of impressed dots, a large and impressive example and a rare and seldom offered Neolithic artefact, totally intact, in very good condition with good stable surfaces, 31mm diameter x 28mm high.
