c.1st/2nd Century A.D. A large and rare Romano - British bronze cloak pin in the form of an axe and handle found in  Hertfordshire and from an Essex collection. A very unusual and rare type of cloak pin with a well defined axe head shaped terminal on the top and the shank of the pin forming the handle. Intact and in good overall condition with just a very slight bend to the shank from its time buried in the earth. Possibly once belonged to a Roman metal-smith and was worn to advertise his trade, an interesting and rare Romano-British item, 94mm long x 19mm along axe head x 6mm at widest.
