SOLD
c.9th/10th Century A.D. A large and rare, Viking carved and polished bone Awl handle from a U.S.collection. This skilfully shaped handle allowed for differing sizes and diameters of bronze awls to be inserted to allow different size holes to be made. [The last photo shows another example with the bronze awl point still in situ]. A good sized and very tactile Viking item, intact (just minus the bronze awl) and in excellent sound condition with a pleasant overall shiny surface patination, a pleasant and intriguing Viking craftsman's tool, 162mm long x 23mm diameter at widest point.
