c.10,000-8,000 B.C. A large and superb quality Mesolithic Tranchet Hand Axe found many years ago near Chelmsford, Essex and Ex.Simon Camm Collection, Cornwall. This impressive example has been beautifully and bi-facially worked throughout from a most attractive banded, black, brown and olive green flint with a nicely defined and retouched, typically angular main chopping edge. Totally intact and undamaged and in lovely condition. A hugely tactile hand axe with a most attractive shiny patination, a choice example of the type, 143mm long x 48mm wide x 37mm thick
