c.2nd/3rd Century A.D. A large and unusual Roman Military decorative bronze mount (Armour Scale?) found in Germany some years back and from a London private collection. This large hollow mount / scale appears to have been once possibly linked to other plates using small rivets, some of which still remain, or possibly fixed to leather straps. This example is quite an elaborate example featuring an engraved geometric design within a square border and a raised central boss. Four small rivet holes along top edge and two small rivets on either side. Small area of what appears to be impact damage to right hand side, possibly from an arrow point impact? otherwise it is totally intact and in very nice condition overall with a pleasant dark olive green patination, a scarce and intriguing Roman Military item, 53mm x 42mm.
