Anglian to Hoxnian strata c.524,000 to 424,000 BC (MIS13-11). A large, excellent and attractive Lower Paleolithic hammer stone from from a famous Lower Prehistoric site at Whitlingham just outside Norwich, Norfolk. Collected in the early-mid 20th Century and from an old Norfolk collection. Very nicely worked with well defined impact marking to percussion faces and the most attractive old Paleolithic colouration and an attractive shiny surface patination, a very tactile and appealing example of a large early Paleolithic tool from a notable site, 97mm long x 70mm wide x 60mm deep
