Hoxnian interglacial c.424k-374k BC (MIS 11) A large, excellent and attractive Lower Paleolithic "Clactonian" Core hand axe found many years back at Wheelers Lane gravel pit, Canford, Dorset and from a Hampshire Geologists collection. A large, heavy and copiously worked piece with the most attractive Old Paleolithic coluration and surface patination; a very distinctive medial ridge on one side effectively forming the main chopping edgeof the axe displaying many small impact marks along its very edge from use. A very tactile piece which fits in the hand nicely affording a good grip of the tool. Intact and in excellent condition with lovely surface ageing and a nice shiny surface patina, a very appealing early stone age hand axe, 128mm long x 70mm wide x 75mm deep
