c.6th/7th Century A.D. A large, excellent and robust Anglo Saxon bronze buckle found in Nottinghamshire and from a Nottinghamshire collection. A thick and heavy "D" shaped main hoop with a thick tapering hinged pin with down-turned point. Probably once silvered or gilded but now just bronze with an overall greenish patination. Totally intact and in good sound overall condition with decent surfaces, a pleasant and good sized Saxon buckle, hoop 30mm wide x 23mm deep, depth over pin 30mm, hoop approximately 5mm thick.
