c.3000-2500 B.C. A large, finely worked and superb Neolithic flint spear head unearthed many years back in a farmers field near Grantham, Lincolnshire and from a Newcastle collection. This impressive spear head would have once been hafted into the end of a large wooden shaft using natural resin and sinew; it is expertly fashioned from a pleasant banded dark grey flint and finely worked, and pressure flaked over the entirety of both sides. Of thin section with still sharp edges and tip. totally intact and in excellent condition with good surface ageing and some very gentle smoothing to the tops of the percussion ridges from its Millennia buried in the earth. It possesses a lovely old collection shiny patina throughout and is a larger than normal and very fine example of its type, 90mm long x 48mm wide x 7mm thick
