Product Description
c.3700-3400 B.C. A large, heavy and impressive Neolithic Quartzite Hammer Stone found many years back at Mildenhall, Suffolk and from a Norfolk collection. This large and heavy Quartzite pebble Hammer Stone was unearthed on a Neolithic site at Mildenhall but as it is a type of stone clearly alien to East Anglia, it must have been either transported or traded in antiquity to have ended up in Suffolk. It is a large rough Quartzite pebble with the glistening of quartz clearly evident over its surface, a couple of areas of the pebble show significant flattening and wear conducive of being used for repeated percussive tasks. Totally intact and in very good condition, a very large and scarce example of the type from a notable Prehistoric site, Approx. 102mm long x 90mm wide x 65mm thick, weight 750g
