c.2500 B.C. A large, heavy and excellent pecked and ground Neolithic hard stone axe found many years back in Cambridgeshire and from a Cambridgeshire collection. Fashioned from a hard dark grey lightly speckled hard stone, probably not native to Cambs but a piece that had travelled down from a more Northerly area. Expertly worked with an elegant gently tapering body, very symmetrical throughout with a smoothly ground and well defined blade edge, totally intact and in lovely condition throughout, a large and impressive example of the type, 145mm long x 50mm at widest x 40mm at thickest
