Middle-Devonian Period c.390-360 million years ago. A large, heavy and impressive Goniatite, a Cephlapod related to the modern day Octopus and Squid with a simplistic coiled, chambered shell and a predeccesor of the Ammonite. These extinct Ammonoids flourished in the ancient seas from the Mid-Devonian c.390 mya through to the late Permian c.251 mya. This is a particularly large and impressive example with good surfaces and detail. Ex old Suffolk collection. A large and pleaant example of the type. 125mm at longest x 98mm at widest.
