Late Paleolithic c.40,000 to 20,000 B.C. A large, heavy and very attractive Paleolithic flint Hand Axe from Kent and from an old Kent collection. Collected many years ago and still featuring the collection number written in ink on one side. The axe is nicely fashioned from a very attractive ochre, tan beige and grey mottled flint with good surfaces, and lovely surface patination and ageing. There is a small cavenous inclusion on one side of the axe full of minute quartz crystals as well, which glisten in the light and add to its appeal. A large, attractive and reasonably priced Palaeolithic axe, 115mm long x 90mm wide x 40mm thick.
