Mid-Acheulian Period c.350,000 to 250,000 B.C. A large and heavy Early Paleolithic Cordate unifacial flint Hand axe found at Barton on Sea, Hampshire and from a Hampshire Geologists collection. Struck from a large from a large flint nodule with original cortex remaining on one side. Further reworking around perimeter of flint face and old evidence of edge impact use. Very tip of axe lost in antiquity and axe somewhat water smoothed but with a pleasant surface patination and otherwise intact and good; a very cheap example of a large early Paleolithic British flint hand axe, 120mm long x 85mm wide x 44mm at thickest
