Hoxnian Interglacial period (MIS11) c.424k-374k BC. A large Lower Paleolithic "Clactonian Industry " flint notched scraper found many years ago at the famous Lower Paleolithic site of Barnham Pit, Suffolk and from an old Norfolk collection. Fashioned from a large flake of honey coloured flint, largely flat underside but worked and re-touched over upper surface to form a wide scraper blade on one side and a distinct worked notch on the end. [It is generally thought that the notch would have been used for stripping bark and shoots from branches so they can be used for other purposes or maybe be made into small thrusting spears]. Some original pebble cortex on butt end to aide grip in use. Intact and in very nice condition, possessing a nice surface ageing / patination and pleasant old Paleolithic colouration, a nice early example from a notable early Paleolithic site, 70mm long x 57mm wide x 20mm thick
