A large Lower Paleolithic pointed flint cobble hand axe / chopper found some years back in the Solent River plateau gravels at Barton-on-sea, Hampshire and from a Hampshire Geologists collection. Well fashioned from a most attractive pale honey coloured flint with a nice contrasting dark cobble cortex, unifacially worked with three large removals forming a wide chopping edge plus a functional digging tip. Totally intact with a most attractive colouration, a lovely old surface ageing with shiny patination to worked surfaces, a large, tactile and appealing example of the type, 100mm long x 63mm wide x 32mm thick
