Neolithic c.2500 B.C. A large and nicely worked Neolithic flint discoidal scraper / knife, found in the early 1970's on Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire, close to the World famous Prehistoric site of Stonehenge. Ex old Wiltshire collection. Skillfully made from a large marbled light/dark grey and blue flint flake struck from the top of a flint nodule, well worked around its periphery to form the characteristic discoidal blade edge with just a small area of original pebble cortex remaining on the upper surface to act as a means of gripping the tool. It is rare to get stone tools from the vicinity of Stonehenge as it was designated a World Heritage site in 1986 and as such no items can no longer be excavated or removed from this site. A large and well worked Neolithic tool from a very famous and now protected World Heitage site; intact and in very nice condition with good surface ageing, 60mm long x 52mm wide x 20mm thick.
